Leveraging its Shanghai-Hong Kong healthcare network and multidisciplinary expertise to support a world-class sporting event
As part of IHH Healthcare multinational network, Parkway Shanghai and Gleneagles Hong Kong have joined forces to provide professional medical support for the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters, leveraging IHH Healthcare North Asia network across Shanghai and Hong Kong. Parkway Shanghai has been providing medical support for the Rolex Shanghai Masters since 2023, and has gained extensive experience in supporting major sporting events. With a deep understanding of tournament operations, venue requirements and athletes' healthcare needs, its medical team delivered on-site medical and rehabilitation services throughout the event. This year, IHH Healthcare North Asia further strengthens its Shanghai-Hong Kong synergy by bringing together medical professionals of different specialties, including emergency medicine, cardiology, orthopaedics, sports medicine and diagnostic imaging, from Parkway Shanghai and Gleneagles Hong Kong. Harnessing a cross-regional healthcare network
Medical support for major international sporting events requires more than rapid response to emergencies. It also demands timely clinical judgement and coordinated care pathways tailored to a wide range of medical needs. From on-site assessment and immediate treatment to specialist referrals, hospital transfers, diagnostic investigations and rehabilitation support before and after the tournament, effective medical support is backed by a comprehensive system encompassing emergency care, rehabilitation, transfer and risk monitoring.
Parkway Shanghai has previously supported a range of sporting events, including squash, basketball and vertical running competitions, and some team members have served the Rolex Shanghai Masters over the last few years. They are familiar with tournament operations, venue logistics, athletes’ healthcare needs, etc, enabling them to deliver efficient care throughout the tournament. Similarly, Gleneagles Hong Kong has been supporting sports development in Hong Kong through providing medical support for major international and local sporting events. Notably, an emergency medicine specialist served as Team Physician of the Hong Kong, China delegation at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and will join the delegation at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan this month to provide professional medical support for athletes. During the two-week Rolex Shanghai Masters tournament, specialists in emergency medicine, cardiology, internal medicine, general practice and family medicine from Parkway and Gleneagles work as a team to support on-site medical emergencies. The rehabilitation team from Parkway Shanghai will also provide post-match stretching and muscle relaxation support to help athletes recover from high-intensity competition, relieve muscle tension and reduce the risk of post-match complications such as cramps.
Dr Kenneth Tsang, Regional Chief Executive Officer of IHH Healthcare North Asia, said, "The Rolex Shanghai Masters is one of the most prestigious international sporting events. We are delighted to bring together the expertise and medical resources of our teams in Shanghai and Hong Kong to support the tournament this year. By leveraging the distinct clinical strengths and specialist capabilities of both teams, we provide comprehensive medical support throughout the tournament. Medical support for major sporting events requires sound clinical judgement, effective teamwork and rapid response capabilities. This collaboration demonstrates how we can apply the strengths of our network to real-world healthcare scenarios. We are also committed to upholding our Group's sustainability aspiration, 'Care. For Good.’, through caring for our patients, our staff, the public and the environment. With health education being one of our key community responsibilities, we hope to work alongside athletes, healthcare professionals and partners from different sectors to promote healthy living and increase public awareness of health and wellness."

Among the different conditions, muscle strains were one of the most common injuries encountered. On one occasion, a player sustained a calf muscle strain. Upon receiving notification at the tournament medical centre, Dr William Wong, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Gleneagles Hong Kong, immediately proceeded courtside to assess the injury and provided pain-relief support and acute care for the player. As shared by Dr Warren Ho, a physician at Parkway Shanghai, medical support is delivered through a coordinated system comprising the ATP's official medical team, the local medical team partnering with the tournament organising committee, and an off-site emergency response and referral network. As of today, the medical teams have managed nearly 100 cases involving players and tournament staff. To ensure readiness for medical situations that may arise during the tournament, the medical teams convene daily briefings every morning. Through case reviews and experience sharing, the teams continuously refine its workflows and response protocols, ensuring effective on-site medical support throughout the tournament's demanding schedule.
Parkway Shanghai:Extending medical support to health promotion
Beyond providing medical support for the tournament, IHH Healthcare North Asia also leverages the platform to promote health awareness. In addition to an on-site booth to introduce its healthcare services, information on sports health, injury prevention and health management is also shared with the public through both online and offline engagement activities. Mr Alex Fong, IHH Healthcare North Asia Wellness Ambassador and former member of the Hong Kong swimming team, engaged with medical professionals and players to discuss topics related to sports and health. From the perspective of a former professional athlete, Alex highlighted the importance of professional medical support in sports while sharing practical tips on sports safety, injury prevention and health management. He also took part in an interactive serve-speed challenge at the event, using a fun and engaging format to promote the concept of safe and science-based exercise.
Through its involvement in international sporting events, IHH Healthcare North Asia aims to support the successful delivery of world-class sporting competitions while encouraging greater awareness of sports safety, injury prevention and proactive health management.
