Recently, the Pan-vascular Center at Parkway Shanghai Hospital successfully performed coronary angiography and interventional treatment for a German patient. The patient had been receiving long-term cardiac care from Dr. Joey Loh at Parkway MediCentre Xintiandi, where a strong doctor-patient relationship had been established through ongoing consultations and follow-up. When further cardiovascular evaluation and treatment became necessary, the patient learned from Dr. Loh that the Pan-vascular Center at Parkway Shanghai Hospital provided coronary angiography and interventional cardiology services, and was subsequently referred to the hospital for further assessment and treatment. During the procedure, Professor Ge Junbo, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, renowned cardiovascular expert and Chief Scientist of Parkway Shanghai Hospital, participated remotely via a high-definition video connection despite being in Germany, providing expert guidance on key clinical decisions throughout the intervention. This successful case highlights Parkway Shanghai Hospital’s comprehensive capabilities in delivering continuity of care for international patients, integrating high-quality medical resources, and coordinating access to leading specialist expertise.
On the day of the procedure, the patient underwent coronary angiography in the catheterisation laboratory at Parkway Shanghai Hospital, which revealed approximately 90% stenosis of the left anterior descending artery. Under the remote guidance of Professor Ge Junbo, Dr. Li Yanlin, Director of Cardiology and the Catheterisation Laboratory at the Pan-vascular Center, Parkway Shanghai Hospital, worked closely with Dr. Dai Yuxiang, Chief Physician of Cardiology at Zhongshan Hospital. Dr. Li coordinated the case presentation and intraoperative communication from the catheterisation control room, while Dr. Dai served as the primary operator for the interventional procedure. Under Professor Ge’s guidance, the team assessed the angiographic findings, stent positioning, fractional flow reserve and other key clinical parameters before successfully completing the intervention.

Post-procedure angiography showed no significant residual stenosis, indicating a favorable procedural outcome. With the support of telemedicine technology, leading specialists can participate in complex case discussions and critical clinical decision-making in real time, even when located overseas. This intraoperative connection spanning approximately 8,000 kilometers enabled top-tier medical expertise to reach the clinical frontline beyond geographical limitations, while further strengthening the hospital’s ability to integrate high-quality medical resources from China and abroad.
